GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 27th September, 1919.

My Lord,

I have the honour to inform Your Lordship that owing to the promotion of Mr. T. L. Perkins to the post of First Assistant Director of Public Works in February, 1918,

the control of the Architectural Oftice of which Mr. Perkins

had been the Executive Officer, devolved upon Mr. A. G. W.

Tickle, an Assistant Engineer.

2.

The Stoff of this branch of the Public

Works Department had been much reduced by the absence of

officers with necessary qualifications for the work carried

out and during the time Mr. Tickle has been in charge thare

has been a ww large increase in the calls made on the

Architectural Staff, necessitating Mr. Tickle working very

long hours including Sundays and holidays.

3.

I am personally acquainted with the great ability and willingness with which Mr. Tickle has performed his duties and recommend that a bonus of $100 per mensam should be granted to him with effect from the date he took over the extra duties, viz., 1st May, 1918, to 31st Decomber this year, or until his promotion to the post of Executive Engineer, whichever first occurs. The promotion referred to will be placed before Your Lordship for consideration in another

Despatch.

I have the honour to be, My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble servant,

Officer Administering the Government.

E RIGHT HONOURABLE

VISCOUNT MILNER, G.C.B.,
